Early Inclusion

Nurturing Belonging for Every Child

The push for inclusion of children with disabilities in academic and childcare settings has become an increasing focus in recent years.  This can make it difficult for educators and childcare professionals to adjust to the influx of children with different needs. They may feel unsupported and lack confidence because they were not trained originally to help children with different needs and abilities, and they aren’t sure how to adjust their materials and routines to accommodate them.

As a certified Early Inclusion Facilitator who works in a professional capacity with young children who have special needs or disabilities, I firmly believe that inclusion is a critical component of early childhood education and development. I play a crucial role in supporting the inclusion of these children in early childhood education and childcare programs and settings.  All children at these young ages deserve to be fully included and know that they belong.

By working collaboratively with educators, families, and other professionals, I help create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all children.

My process

I start by first assessing the developmental and educational needs of young children with disabilities or special needs. This may involve:

  • Observing the children
  • Reviewing any assessments done, and
  • Working with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to develop individualized plans.

I then work closely with educators, administrators, and other staff members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for children with special needs.

Finally, on an ongoing basis, I  provide guidance, training, and coaching, to ensure that all children receive appropriate accommodations and modifications in classroom and childcare settings.
