My Upcoming (Free!) Webinars
I realized that I did not let you know about the upcoming webinars that I am leading in last week’s blog post! So, yes, I have some training I am doing that I would love to let you know about. This blog post will highlight the two-part webinar series I am doing with Parents Helping Parents and First 5 of Santa Clara County, called “When Concerns Arise”. These webinars are from the Beginning Together program through WestEd.

Part 1: Webinar Presentation
Wednesday, August 24 2022 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Part 2: Digging Deeper: Meeting
Wednesday, August 31st, 10 – 11:30 AM
Part 1. Webinar. Teachers and daycare providers are often the first professionals who notice that a child may have a delay or a disability. Having a conversation with a family about this can be stressful for all involved. This webinar will provide an introduction to the issues that influence the reactions providers and families may have. Teachers and providers will be better able to support families and children when they are concerned about the child’s development if they understand their own emotional responses.
There are many factors that influence perception about disability, special needs, and how best to address the needs of the child. Exploring and understanding what some of these factors may be can increase empathy and assist communication among providers and family members.
This introductory webinar will be followed by a second one for those who would like to delve deeper into this issue, explore their own reactions, and receive support and ideas on how to best support the families and children they serve when concerns arise.
Part 2. Digging Deeper. Meeting. We will dig deeper into this issue. This meeting will provide a space for everyone to explore their own reactions and viewpoints, hear from others, and problem-solve some of the concerns that arise when having that conversation. There will be break-out activities where you can connect with others and time for personal reflection. Teachers and daycare providers will come away with greater confidence and some valuable tools they can use when having those conversations “when concerns arise”.
